Bye-bye! :(

screenValhalla194-pRO-Valhalla-closesI regret to say that this is a short-lived blog.

Silly me. I shouldn’t have hoped that the Valhalla Server would last for as long as Philippine Ragnarok Online (pRO) would be up. In case you’re lost on what I’m talking about, the Valhalla Server of pRO closed on the evening of the 28th of January, 2013 (Monday). MY beloved server … OUR beloved server … gone.

To make matters worse, it was announced that accounts from the Valhalla Server would be merged with accounts from New Loki, aka “server merge”, and the new server resulting from such would be named, New Loki. Not much inspiration in naming; they reasoned out that the alphabetical order of the two server names was the basis.

Thanks, “Duke the Ripper!”

So I recently made a new friend on Philippine Ragnarok Online, Valhalla Server in the name of “Duke the Ripper”. He’s a Shadow Chaser with the Rogue skill, Scribble.

So how did I meet him? I was walking around Prontera when I saw graffiti on the ground saying, “Amalayer”. It caught my attention since it was the height of a nationalized social issue that circulated around social networks. Anyway, I was amused by the scribble that I asked Duke the Ripper, who was sitting nearby, if I could take a screenshot. I think he didn’t understand that I meant to take a screenshot of the scribble that he did since he asked, “Ng ano?”

“Yan,” I said.

pRO Changed Client Problem

I’ve been playing Philippine Ragnarok Online (pRO) on the Valhalla Server for some time now. Lately, to be specific, after the pRO Anniversary month, I noticed that my client would bring up the following pop-up window after clicking “Start Game”:

pRO-changed-client

At this point, I would click on “Ok”, as instructed. This would re-patch the whole client starting from the time the client’s files have been uploaded on Level Up!’s download site, to be specific: January 2010. I use a USB dongle for my Internet connection, so patching the client from January 2010 up to the present takes a lot of time. The annoying part of this is that this has become a regular occurrence. One to two hours of potential playing time ticks away just patching up the client. And it’s just for a single client; what if you play on two or three different pRO clients?

Why do they “false warp”?

I just don’t get it.

Why are there players of Ragnarok Online who cast false warps on spawn points to trouble other players? They make the gaming experience very undesirable!

One in-game friend said that it was a “power tripping” act. Generally, to power trip is to derive satisfaction from the exercise of one’s power over others. I couldn’t believe it! They actually experience an emotional high from false warping others? O.o That’s weird. And ultimately irritating!!

Hopefully, Level Up! Games will come up with a solution to these ridiculous false warpers.
